After 4 years of imprisonment at Fort Sumner by the US Government, the Diné people were released to retur...

Navajo Prelude No. 3 (on carillon) performed by Tiffany Ng - Music by Connor Chee
Переглядів 671Рік тому
"Navajo Prelude No. 3" (arranged for #carillon ) Happy Indigenous Peoples Day! Originally written for piano, this arrangement for carillon was commissioned (and performed) by Tiffany Ng, as part of her efforts to help diversify public soundscapes. The carillon can be heard up to a mile away, and this is one way indigenous music can reclaim spaces where they were historically excluded. This prel...

Connor Chee - Cedar (from Scenes from Dinétah) | Navajo Piano
Переглядів 4,2 тис.3 роки тому
"Cedar" ( for solo #piano ) The smell of cedar always brings me great comfort, and it was my inspiration when I wrote this piece. Cedar trees (technically juniper) are found throughout the Navajo Nation. They are used in many ways in Diné (Navajo) culture. Cedar beads or "Ghost Beads" are made from the berries, and the plants are also dried and burned for ceremonial and cleansing purposes. What...
Connor Chee - Sunrise (from Scenes from Dinétah) | Navajo Piano
Переглядів 4,6 тис.3 роки тому
"Sunrise" ( for solo #piano ) It is Navajo tradition to wake up before the sun rises, so you can greet him and offer a prayer with white corn pollen. It is believed that you should never let the sun "see you sleeping," but rather find you already awake and ready to take on the day. When the Holy People see that you are already prepared to face the challenges of the day, they will bless you. Com...
Connor Chee - Fry Bread (from Scenes from Dinétah) | Navajo Piano
Переглядів 11 тис.3 роки тому
"Fry Bread" ( for solo #piano ) #Frybread is a staple of #Navajo culture, and I'm super thankful to Doris Etcitty for allowing us to film her making some traditional fry bread! This was one of my favorite videos to shoot...maybe just because I got to eat the fry bread at the end?? :) Thanks to everyone that has supported my music by purchasing a CD or download! It is so greatly appreciated! The...
Connor Chee - Horses (from Scenes from Dinétah) | Navajo Piano
Переглядів 3,3 тис.3 роки тому
"Horses" ( for solo #piano ) I have fond memories of riding horses at my grandfather's (nali's) place on the Navajo reservation as a kid. Horses provide transportation, help with work, and are also part of the traditional Navajo stories about the Holy People. They are often allowed to graze freely on the land. What stories have been passed down to you about horses? Big thanks to Shelby Lynn Roc...

"Weaving" ( for solo #piano ) I hope you all enjoy this music video, and a HUGE thanks to Ramona Keoni for allowing me to film her for this video. If you would like to purchase a rug from her, just send her a message on Facebook ( ramona.keoni.3) She is sooo talented and comes from a long line of Navajo weavers. The Navajo people are known for weaving beautiful rugs. It was said tha...
Connor Chee - Hogan (from Scenes from Dinétah) | Navajo Piano
Переглядів 1,8 тис.3 роки тому
"Hogan" ( for solo #piano ) The hogan is the traditional home of the Navajo people. The door must face east towards the rising sun, to greet the day and welcome blessings. This video was filmed at my nali's (grandfather's) hogan. At the center is a wood-burning stove, and traditionally you enter and leave the hogan in a clockwise direction. Composed and Performed by Connor Chee Directed by Mike...
Connor Chee - Horny Toad (from Scenes from Dinétah) | Navajo Piano
Переглядів 2,4 тис.3 роки тому
"Horny Toad" ( for solo #piano ) In Navajo culture, the Horny Toad is referred to as "Cheii," which means "grandfather." He is sacred, and brings protection to the Navajo people. His armor, made of arrowheads, offers protection both physically and spiritually. When you see Cheii in the wild, it is a custom to carefully pick him up and place him over your heart for good health, protection, and b...
Dez beignets arabes !!
You are a great pianist. I've learned piano for 10 years, and the only thing I was allowed to play was "Pierre and the wolf". Random music, random melody with no soul.
Awesome. Best navajo song so far. Bravo !
Everyone hated Tom Cruise in that role. They wanted Johnny Depp. He turned down the role. Look at the actor in the Queen of the Damned. He looks just like a young Johnny Depp. Need I say more?
I absolutely love this piece, so beautiful and sad, all at the same time xx
Thank you
Thank you indigenous and Native peoples of the world ❤❤❤❤ blessed with their heritage Red Nation of Maiz✌🏽

Hello from Scotland, just come across your music and videos on UA-cam. Fascinating. Since I was a child Native Americans and their way of living interested me. More recently I have come across Native American music, mostly on UA-cam. Thanks for sharing your music, culture with us.
Thank you for watching and listening!
❤ #Hózhó The words in “Shí Naashá” express the joy of the Diné to be returning to their homeland. While many other Navajo songs cannot be interpreted easily, almost every syllable in “Shí Naashá” is translatable. shí = I naashá = walk biké = path I follow hózhǫ́ = beauty way lá = (emphasizing what was said before) ahala = freedom (the sense of joy walking towards freedom) ghą = in the way of naashá = walk Shí naashá (I am going/walking around), is a song, composed in 1868 to commemorate the release of the Diné from internment at Fort Sumner. The lyrics express the elation they experienced upon their return to their homeland. Ahala ahalago naashá ghą Shí naashá ghą, shí naashá ghą, Shí naashá lágo hózhǫ’ la. Shí naashá ghą, shí naashá ghą, Shí naashá, ladee hózhǫ’ǫ’ lá. I am going in freedom I am going, I am going, I am going in beauty. I am going, I am going, I am going, beauty is all around me. Walking in Beauty Closing Prayer from the Navajo Way Blessing Ceremony In beauty I walk With beauty before me I walk With beauty behind me I walk With beauty above me I walk With beauty around me I walk It has become beauty again Hózhóogo naasháa doo. Shitsijí’ hózhóogo naasháa doo. Shikéédéé hózhóogo naasháa doo. Shideigi hózhóogo naasháa doo. T’áá altso shinaagóó hózhóogo naasháa doo. Hózhó náhásdlíí’. Hózhó náhásdlíí’. Hózhó náhásdlíí’. Hózhó náhásdlíí’ Today I will walk out, today everything negative will leave me I will be as I was before, I will have a cool breeze over my body. I will have a light body, I will be happy forever, nothing will hinder me. I walk with beauty before me. I walk with beauty behind me. I walk with beauty below me. I walk with beauty above me. I walk with beauty around me. My words will be beautiful. In beauty all day long may I walk. Through the returning seasons, may I walk. On the trail marked with pollen may I walk. With dew about my feet, may I walk. With beauty before me may I walk. With beauty behind me may I walk. With beauty below me may I walk. With beauty above me may I walk. With beauty all around me may I walk. In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk. In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk. My words will be beautiful…
